Associate in Applied Science Degree
64 Semester Hours Minimum
The program prepares students to be skilled paraprofessionals who give reference assistance prepare instructional materials, verify information on order requests, perform routine cataloging and coding of library materials, retrieve information from computer databases, organize and maintain periodicals, handle interlibrary loan requests, supervise other support staff, such as circulation desk workers, and operate and maintain audiovisual equipment. During the final semester, the student participates in a library practicum, giving a semester-long experience in a variety of duties in one of the community's libraries.

The Library Technical Assistant Certificate is designed to prepare individuals for immediate entry into library positions, assisting library professionals in their job of acquiring, preparing and organizing materials. LTAs may also assist library users in finding materials and information. Emphasis is on acquiring practical skills needed in day-to-day operations in a library or media center.
